I am looking for someone to cut down a big pine tree that is dead and too close to my cabin for an amateur like me to tackle. I would require that the person is bonded and insured. My place is in the Town of Silvercliff. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • RJB says:

      Hi Jay,
I know a guy with a tree service. Supposedly he is all bonded and insured. His specialty is climbing and taking down trees like yours a piece at a time. I will probably see him this weekend or I will try to get contact info.

when do you think prime fall colors will be this year ???

    • RJB says:

My bet would be early, probably starting early September and peaking late in the month. I will have to admit that I have a 100% track record of getting it wrong. The Brewers fan in me thinks that this is the year!

My garage was broken into and my kids Yamaha mini raptor was stolen. This was a blue 80cc atv with the rear fenders camouflaged. My cabin is in the Twinbridge area. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it. Thanks

Does anybody know where to get a map with the most current trails and legal roads for ATV in Marinette County. There were changes this year and I am looking for a map with these changes on it. Thank you.

Hi, Does anyone know of a local vacation rental property management company that can help handle the weekly rentals in the summer? Thanks in advance for the help.

  10. Andy says:

Does someone know if there is anyone in the Silver Cliff area that could set trusses on top of my pole barn (12′ high) or anywhere I can rent a telescoping forklift in the area?

    • Dan says:

      Andy,
Give Scott Birkholz from Birkholz Construction a call. He uses a local guy with a small crane to set trusses. His number is 715-850-0450.

    Newbie here.
This blog is blocked at work but I have used SilverCliff.com many times in the last year.
About a year ago, my family bought property in Silver Cliff between “F” and McCaslin Campground. So, I’m what you would call a part time neighbor.
We were up there a lot last summer and this spring and summer will be no different.
I am having the same issues as Steve with the TV reception, but am willing to accept it because there is so much more to do than watch TV. It would be nice to get some local and national news once a day. Oh well.
I would like some information on where we can legally ride ATV’s in and around Silver Cliff. I have heard rumors of being able to ride ditches along HWY “F” but have not seen anything published.
Any info from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
I know there is a trail head/hook-up on Chickadee, but from there, I’m lost.
I have also seen trails / tracks leading into Lakewood in the ditches. Is this legal?
Bottom line question; can you legally get from the corner of “C” and “F”
    to Lakewood on an atv?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Hi, do you know anything about McCaslin Mountain campground closing the off road trails? I saw a few old comments on some forums and saw it on the campgrounds web site. I have been going there for years and can’t believe it. The trails brought a lot of money into the area and to the campground. You couldn’t fit another camper or off road vehicle there on holiday weekends. If this is true it is very sad and I will miss it greatly. It is so difficult to find an area to ride and this is one of the greatest places I have ever been off roading, and the owners are great people. I know the campground owners don’t own all that land and would assume the DNR shut it down. Why can’t they let us have one place to ride? :(

    • Dan says:

      Kurt,
      I feel your sorrow.
We have become friends with the Smith’s over the last year and are also sad to see the trails close. Not only for the fun, but for their business as well.
The inside scoop I have is: the WDNR said the trucks and atv’s were changing the natural water flow of the area. The WDNR will send Mcasslin’s a letter stating what needs to be done to re-open, but don’t hold your breath.

What is the wireless internet that you use? You wrote about it last year, perhaps.

Wasn’t it broadcast from the tower in Crivitz, by CyberZone?
I’m 10 miles west of Crivitz and when I question Cyberzone they say that their signal doesn’t go much beyond city limits.

I’m looking for something cheaper than the wireless internet from cell phone (tower) providers.

Ideally having internet and TV bundled together would be great. We dropped the landline so ATT U-Verse doesn’t want to talk to us.

    • RJB says:

      Hi Jim,
I use Cellcom cell tower based internet. The only thing not to like is the price ($50/month). It is far superior to satellite and often cheaper. I am pretty sure that you can get the same G-2 service through a different provider like Verizon off of the same towers.
A lot of people that have weekend places use the Cellcom. The router is very portable and usable both at home and at the cabin, and it lasts a couple of hours on the rechargeable battery, so you can do a laptop in the car too.

I don’t know of any wireless internet company that bundles TV and net.

  16. Steve says:

Has anyone had any luck with recieving digital over-the-air TV signals in the Silvercliff area?

    • RJB says:

It can be done, but you need a good antenna and it has to be up there with a good line of sight.

    • Mark Hutchings says:

Steve, I have a cabin in Athelstane and I bought a Winegard HD8200U Antenna. It is top of the line as far as antenna’s, but I now have no problems picking up GB channels. I had no channels at all prior to this purchase. I got it from a website called Solid Signal.com. I got it as an ‘Open Box Item’ and it was much cheaper ($100.00). Hope this helps.

  17. Curt says:

I’m wondering when the trails are open to ATV’s again. I’m new to ATV’s so I really don’t know the ropes or what is typical. Any insight would be appreciated.

    • RJB says:

Almost always the trails reopen the first Saturday in May. It is subject to conditions, but it has usually been that weekend.
