2014

Wednesday 7-2-14

Greetings and welcome!
We have a big weekend coming up, and it is looking like a good one. The weather looks nice, there are a lot of events, and even the fire danger is reasonable.

The weather looks great until Saturday night. Friday and Saturday are expected to be clear and in the mid-70s.

One forecast model (GFS)brings in a chance of rain Saturday night, and then leaves us clear until Sunday night. The AVN skips the Saturday night rain chance. The HPC is shoing the same Saturday night scenario and not much for Sunday. The NWS is a little more skeptical offering a chance of rain Saturday night and Sunday. I am not too worried about it. The worst case scenario has us getting about 1/4″ all weekend.

Bring Repel or Deep Woods Off. I use the 40%. The mosquitoes have been having a good year. While they aren’t as plentiful as they were a few weeks ago in my travels, there are still spots that are really thick with them. If that happens to be your spot, you will be really happy that you have some spray. I’d expect that local stores are ready, but with a busy weekend, who knows.

Gas prices are between 3.69 and 3.79 depending on where you go.  Crivitz and Wausaukee have been on the high end of that lately while Lakewood/Townsend/Carter were a dime cheaper.

There is a bunch of construction going on in Green Bay, especially on 41. Hwy 43 is the better way to go. Hwy 141 and Hwy 64 will bring another construction zone. They are making that intersection into an interchange and overpass. Rumor has it that the project is to be done in 90 days, and that they are working day and night.

Hwy 141 through Wausaukee brings more construction. They are replacing the southbound side of the 141 bridge, so southbound traffic is rerouted onto side streets just before the bridge.

wausaukee4thposterThey will also be rerouting traffic on 141 northbound Saturday from 180 to the north end of the bridge for their 4th of July celebration and parade. They are having their parade starting at 1pm starting at the first road north of 180, and I’d guess that it will go on for an hour or so.

The only other event that I have to add to the lists in the last two updates is the Goodman Armstrong Creek VFD fundraiser. They will have a DJ, food & drink, and raffles. It is at the VFD hall in Goodman.

That is it from here. Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

62514aThe word of the day is humid. We have had damp and humid weather since last weekend.

Last weekend turned out to be cool and overcast with air so humid that there was mist in the trees and fog after sunset Saturday. It misted a few times but didn’t rain.

The humid stuff continued into this week. Tuesday it was so humid that there was condensation on the shop floor cement. Today was a little better with a little better conditions, but it was still damp. A few showers hit here and there Monday and Tuesday’s rain registered a little over 1/2″.

We will get a break with some cooler and drier air behind yesterday’s cold front. It is expected to be sunny and 76 Thursday and a little warmer with a few more clouds for Friday.

The weekend looks like more warm and humid southern air will move over the area, along with a 40% chance of rain or storms. Highs in the low to mid-80s are expected, along with some clouds.

A lot like last weekend, the models are not showing any organized lines, more a scenario with occasional rain popping up, with a better chance Sunday.

We have a lot of events coming up. This weekend I have two good ones, and I have been working on my July 4th weekend events too.

This weekend we have Timberfest in Lakewood. I remember going to these in the past and they were great. They have a timber show with the log rolling and stuff like that, bluegrass music, the logging camp, and all kinds of stuff. Click the poster to make it bigger.

timberfestadAlso this weekend the Town of Niagara is having their centennial celebration. They have a carnival, a bunch of live bands that you have heard of ( 38 Special, Kentucky Headhunters..) , a parade Saturday, and fireworks Sunday night.

The state is rebuilding the bridge on 141 in Wausaukee as part of the highway upgrades. They are starting on the southbound side and rebuilding it one lane at a time. Southbound traffic is detoured onto side rods just north of C. Once they finish the southbound lane, they will switch to the other side and rebuild it. Apparently it is a big project so expect that stretch to be under construction all summer. Here is a map.http://www.wausaukee.com/CalendarPDF/Traffic%20Reroute%20Bridge.jpg

The wet and humid weather has not been lost on the mosquitoes. They are definitely present, and in some places, really thick. Bring bug spray. I use Deep Woods off or Repel in the 40% stuff. Some of my favorite fishing spots where they get really heavy might merit a head net too. The time that I have spent outside the Repel has been good enough.

62514bNot all bugs are bad ones. This colorful moth camped on a screen for a few days. It seems that they like that spot, it isn’t the first time. I have seen a few of the big bodied moths like this camp there in years past. I am not sure what it is , but it had a fat body and an upturned tail.

That is it for tonight. Have a good week and thank you for visiting.

Greetings and welcome!

Summer is definitely in full swing. We have had some warm and humid weather, and some pretty regular rains. It looks like a nice weekend ahead too.

Right now the forecast for the short term is of interest. There are a couple of lines of storms coming out of MN that could bring heavy rains tonight and tomorrow. One forecast had an area north and west of here seeing two plus inches of rain.  A recent update had it possibly not getting that far north. Nonetheless, we are probably in for some decent rains.

This spring and summer has been pretty steady with the rain. A long time ago I came up with the idea that about an inch of rain a week was ideal. It kept the rivers fun, the fire danger low, and green things happy. It has been a while since we have kept up with that, and this year we seem to be.

The weekend looks pretty decent once the storm clears out friday afternoon. There will be a slight chance for rain Saturday and a little better chance Sunday.  I don’t see it as an organized storm, more like conditions where a line of showers or storms could come through. The NWS has it at 30% Saturday and Saturday night, and a generic chance wording for Sunday.

61914aI have been seeing fawns in the last few weeks, and the turtles have been up on the sandy roads to lay their eggs. It is starting to look a lot like summer. In fact, Saturday is the first day of summer. Here is an article about it.

I did finally get the boat out for a test run a while back. It was great to be out on Caldron Falls and seeing the sights. We saw turtles, loons, ducks, an eagle, and some pretty inviting fishing spots. Here are a couple of pictures..

The work that the state did at Boat landing #9 turned out pretty nice. There is a good landing with ample parking, a launch dock and a nice fishing dock. They moved the landing back in the bay and put the docks and stuff back there. It is a nice spot with a good landing, a beach, and and no fees.

The mosquito invasion has subsided a little bit. They are still easy to find, but a little better. It has been fairly windy, so they have been the worst in sheltered areas. Bring Repel or Deep Woods Off.

Time to wrap it up. Have a great weekend and thank you for visiting!
