Greetings and welcome!

We have a hot and humid weekend ahead and some good events too.

First up we are looking at a weather pattern that will bring hot and humid air and days around 90 degrees this weekend. That will also bring a chance of storms. There isn’t any specific time or organized storm system, it is more of an unstable atmosphere that could brew up some showers or storms. With the heat and humidity some of the storms could get intense. Again I am not looking at a washout weekend, but rather some summer storms. The NWS has rain chances at 40% Friday and Friday night, 20% Saturday, and 50% Saturday night.

We had a good line of storms roll through the area late Tuesday night. There was nothing severe, but there were some downpours and the lightning show to the north was really something. That should help to boost river levels for the weekend fun.

In events Lakewood will be hopping this weekend. There is a Muscle Maniacs car show, and the Nicolet Plastics walk/run. There is also a gun show at Crivitz Village Hall Saturday morning.

I haven’t had a lot of wildlife sightings this week but my neighbors have. One neighbor says that they are up to three different deer fawns that they have seen. Another neighbor spotted a bobcat and a black bear. I did kick up a couple of does by one of my sumac patches and they were really hesitant to run off, so I am guessing that there were fawns with them.

This week Marinette County was out along Hwy C posting ATV route signs. The big news is that you can now get to Rapids Resort and Kosir’s Rafting as well as the Rustic Inn by ATV/UTV on Hwy C. The route comes up Boat Landing 11 Rd to C, then east on Hwy C to just past Rustic Inn where the trail goes back into the woods.

They have been wanting this for many years, but the DNR played dirty and really crapped on ATV riders when they set up the state forest around the flowages. It is good to see that they finally found a way around to give people access. My hat is off to the people that got this done.

Summer is here. Get out there and enjoy it. I can’t believe that May and half of June are already behind us. When it gets hot this weekend keep in mind that Kosir’s is all about getting wet. They have whitewater rafting on two different rivers, lazy river tubing and sit on top kayaks that you can take out on Caldron Falls Flowage. Like we used to say in the movies.. Get Wet With Kosir’s!

Have a great weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

We have a nice weekend ahead for weather. The forecast is for mid-70s Saturday and upper 70s Sunday. There is a 20% chance of a shower Friday night. Right now it looks like the rain will stay south of Hwy 64 for the most part.

The summer foliage is getting pretty thick in the past week. It is getting hard to see very far into the woods. The ferns in particular are getting big.

The summer season is not lost on the insect world. Last night there were a lot of dragonflies overhead, something that I don’t mind since they eat other bugs. Today a damselfly came to visit me at work, landing very close. I have seen quite a few viceroy butterflies this week. Unfortunately there were some mosquitoes today too. I got nailed a couple of times in the back while I was preoccupied and out came the Repel 40. I guess it is that season too.

The whitewater rafting continues to be a good choice. The river has risen and fallen, but it still has not gone down to normal summer levels. I consider anything above 300cfs to be the fun zone and we are at 425 right now. That probably translates to about a +4″.

The only event that I have for this weekend is the Oconto Co Breakfast On The Farm. Here is a link.

I have not seen any deer fawns yet this year, but it is about that time. Several people in the area have spotted the little ones.

This is also about the time of year that the snapping turtles come up to gravel and sand areas to lay their eggs. I saw one last weekend that was bigger than a dinner plate.

Usually I associate seeing the turtles with good bass fishing on the small lakes. I will have to look into that.

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
