Thursday 7-2-2020

I am updating my Tuesday post with a new date to keep the events from getting pushed off into the archive.

-The weather outlook hasn’t changed much.

-Rustic Inn is having live music Saturday at 3pm.

-I listed the wrong band for Caldron Falls Bar, the band Sat is Bullets & Booze.

-I found a graphic about Pembine’s 4th festivities and I posted it at the bottom of the list.

Greetings and welcome!

I am getting a head start this week with the big weekend coming up.

First up it is going to be a hot one. We are in a stubborn jet stream pattern known as an omega block. That is where the jet stream loops up over the Great Lakes region in an omega shape, bringing hot and humid air to the region. Expect hot and humid days with highs in the upper 80s or low 90s. Dew points will be in the low 70s, fairly uncomfortable.

On the west side of the omega block there is some pretty active weather. We won’t be part of that until Sunday afternoon according to the current forecast. There is a chance of rain Thursday and that is all that is showing until Sunday.

I would expect the beaches and lake to be busy this week and weekend. Whitewater rafting and tubing will be popular, and the Peshtigo River is still above normal by about 10″. A lot of people will have a great time there this weekend.

There is a lot happening this weekend. The 4th is actually on Saturday this year. Here is my list so far…

Crivitz

Update- Crivitz cancelled their parade & festivities out of COVID  concerns. The fireworks are still on. Read on.

The Crivitz Museum will be hosting a Flea and Farmers market on Saturday July 4th. Hours will be from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. with vendors set up starting at 7 a.m. A fee of $15 per lot from the vendors will be collected during the day. Lot size will be approximately 25′ x 20′ with 6′ in between for social distancing. it will be located in the field across from the Crivitz High School (Behind McDonalds and across the street). Rain date would be the following day on July 5th Sunday. The museum will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day and like always free admission.

Wausaukee

Wausaukee is still having a parade and fireworks, but cancelled the usual celebration due to COVID fears. Parade starts at one at the south end of town down the highway to the campground at the north end of town. It generally takes 30 minutes or more.  Fireworks near the fairgrounds, the usual celebration is canceled, but local businesses are stepping up.

Oconto County
4th of July Fireworks Show on Kelly Lake, WI on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00PM.
(Rain day, Saturday, July 4th at 10:00PM)

Everbreeze Resort will be having fireworks on Saturday, July 4th at dusk.
Gillett 4th of July Celebration- Parade, fireworks,
Date: July 4, 2020
Townsend Fireworks On Saturday, July 4, 2020 starting at dusk. No parade or celebration.

That is my list so far. Hopefully I will get back late week and update with any new events and the latest weather.

It has been a busy week for the area as people take time off ahead of the holiday. I would expect a busy weekend.

Have a good week and thank you for visiting!

Pembine-

Tuesday 6-23-2020

Morning Update- We did make that 4″ mark.. just barely.

Greetings and welcome!

Just a quick rain update..

Saturday it went on to rain another inch for a total of 3″ on the USGS gauge by Kosir’s.  Several people said that their gauge was higher than the USGS gauge by 1/2″ or more.

Sunday turned out to be a pretty nice day. It did rain a little after sunset.

Guess what? It is raining again. It started a little before sunset Monday and has added up to 1/2″ as of 11:15pm Monday night. The radar shows that it might not stop for a while. I would not be surprised to see it hit the 1″ mark, bringing us to about 4″ of rain since Saturday.

This is as of 11:15pm Monday.

There are going to be some flooded trails and forest roads. Lowlands that gather water have done so, and I would expect small lakes to be pretty full. Mud won’t be hard to find. Trout streams are going to be big too. It has been a wet summer.

The whitewater rafting will be amazing this week and weekend. The Peshtigo is running about a+18″, a really fun level.

Weekend visitors might want to hit WalMart for some of that Repel Sportsman’s 40%. The wet stretch was not lost on the gators (mosquitoes). I got swarmed pretty bad Sunday night.

Have a good week!

Saturday June 20th, 2020

Greetings and welcome!

We had a lot of rain last night. The radar returns are showing 1.5″ plus and the USGS rain gauge by Kosir’s is showing just over 2″. It must have really rained hard at some point, I actually had water go up over the cement lip between the garage and driveway and flood half of the garage.

I would expect to see some washed out or flooded forest roads and ATV trails as a result, especially in northern Oconto County. There is more rain on the way.

I should also note that the Peshtigo River came up about 5″ overnight from the rain. That is very unusual. It is one of my little truths of life that a rising river is a fun river for whitewater. It gets very pushy and rafting this fast of a rise should be a total blast. Call Kosir’s. 715-757-3431.

The bars are probably going to be busy this weekend. Based on how clogged the cell towers are there are a lot of weekend visitors this weekend. Not only is the data impossibly slow, yesterday afternoon I couldn’t even make a call. It is good to see a lot of people in the area again.

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Friday 6-19-2020

Greetings and happy Friday!

The weather has been interesting lately. Last Friday night we got down to 33 degrees. This week we have been in the mid and upper 80s. Now the NWS has at least a chance of rain for the next 7 days.

It does look like a soggy weekend starting with some showers or storms this afternoon. It is not supposed to rain the whole time this weekend, but by Monday we could see 1-3″ of rain. I guess that fire danger won’t be a problem.

The yellow daisies have been coming on strong this past week and some fields are totally painted with them. The cottonwoods are dropping seeds, so it looks like it snowed in some places.

There is live music at the Caldron Falls Bar Saturday night.

The whitewater rafting and lazy river tubing by Kosir’s will be good again this weekend. The river still hasn’t gone down to zero (-not empty, but rather the normal summer water level) yet this year.

The grass has been growing fast and needs cutting again.

Saturday is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. We will have 15 hours 40 minutes and 45 seconds of daylight. It is all downhill from here. We will lose 6 hours, 58 minutes from now until the December Solstice. Enjoy it while you can!

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
