Greetings and welcome!

We are in the 7th day of a pretty good heat wave. It is kinda funny that my last update 10 days ago was talking about a low of 28 and highs near 60. Wouldn’t that be a treat right now? Our hottest day of the heat wave was 97. Most days have been in the low 90s with about 94 typical.

The GF’s central air went out the other day. It didn’t take long for her house to get into the mid-80s in the afternoon. The A/C needs a freon charge, but they won’t sell the latest kind to me without EPA certification. Ok, so I call the heating and cooling guy. They can’t even look at it for 2-3 weeks. A friend in the business can probably look at it next week. Clearly we aren’t alone in having stuff break down in the heat wave. I ended up finding a couple of window units up in Iron Mountain. It was an expensive temporary fix, but good enough.

There is a pretty good thunderstorm to our west that will help drop temperatures to a more normal level. We are in a marginal risk for severe weather ( the lowest tier) so I am not too concerned about things getting wild. The chance for thunderstorms lasts into tomorrow morning. After that we are looking at highs of 81 Saturday and 86 Sunday.

The warm weather has done a fine job of warming up the local lakes. The GF went to the beach with friends yesterday and found the water at Boat Landing #9 beach (By Thornton’s) to be very pleasant.

The next two things on my mind is the bugs and the grass. The bugs are thick. Not the ticks and gators so much, it is the moths and butterflies, Junebugs, and mayflies. The windshield had plenty of bugs after our trip to Iron Mountain. A lot of people have been seeing luna moths and I have seen several of the big cecropias. I have also spotted leopard moths and several other interesting species. Not all bugs are bad, some are pretty cool.

As far as the grass.. it is growing like crazy. I cut last week and it needs it bad again. I’m not really interested in running my power equipment hard when it is in the mid-90s, so that will wait until tomorrow or Sunday.

As far as events go this weekend.. This is the Saturday of the Dockside panfishing tournament. They will have music, food, and raffles for a good cause. ( I believe that it goes to local fire & rescue, but not positive). There is also music Saturday night at Uncle Mike’s (the old Tommy’s Corner Pub) as well as at the Rustic Inn.

The Peshtigo River is still running at pretty good levels for rafting and tubing There is a fun way to cool off. Call Kosir’s and get wet.

That is it for me today. Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
