Greetings and welcome!

The Friday of the last holiday weekend of summer is here. Hopefully a lot of you will be getting away this weekend.

The weather this morning was pretty wet. We had a cold front go through last night and this morning that brought some lightning and some pretty good rains. Downstate there were some strong winds and storm damage, but it looks like we missed out on that.

There is still a chance of showers this afternoon, but the bulk of the rain has passed. It should leave us a pleasant weekend with temps in the 70s and only minor chances for rain later Saturday and maybe later Sunday. Those look like very small disturbances and not much to be concerned about.

Looking at the QPF for the weekend we are in a very light band, but to our west and south the cold front is expected to keep the rain coming.

My big excitement this week came Wednesday when I unexpectedly had some time to kill and I went and made firewood. I  stacked some up from storm damage earlier in the summer, but this was the first real trip to the woods. My first take was about an 18″ diameter red oak that brought about 1/2 a cord. I guess I remembered how to notch a tree, it was a perfect drop. The gnats were plentiful, but other than those and a few deer, there were no wildlife sightings.

The sky was heavy but only a few drops fell here and there. The humidity that didn’t get wrung out of the atmosphere came back around Thursday morning in the form of some pretty good fog when the temperature went below the overnight dew point.

Last night and this morning’s rain should put an end to the humidity once it dries up and leave us with a mostly pleasant weekend. We are looking for overcast skies and temps in the low 70 with overnight temps in the 50s and 60s. The mid-60s and lows in the 40s have been erased from the forecast.

Generally we are in for a nice weekend.

I don’t have any events to add to the list other than some live music at the Firelane Bar tonight with Paul Hanna from Annex doing a solo unplugged show.

Beyond that, the TV card for the computer came yesterday. It was great watching the Packers in HD, and piping it through the big PA amp brought a lot of sounds of the game that I hadn’t heard before. Twice I got up to see if someone was here. Nope, it was just background noise from the game. I like it.

That is about it from here. Have a fun and safe holiday weekend and thank you for visiting!
