Greetings and welcome!

We have been having some nice weather lately. I always appreciate September for its moderate temperatures and a few less mosquitoes and wood ticks. The weekend looks very nice too. Yeeha!

Fall colors are at the top of my list to talk about today. Usually they are getting started by now, but this year it isn’t much of a show yet. The sumac are changing and some of the early maples are having a branch or two start.

So far the colors that are showing are a little drab. I am not sure if it is too dry, not enough ( or too much?) diurnal temperature swing, or what the cause is. Whatever the case, the big show hasn’t started just yet. I expect that to change dramatically very soon.

They have pretty much wrapped up construction on 141 from Crivitz to Wausaukee. The road is nice and smooth and the new passing lanes are very nice.

TC left a comment on the 9th saying that 141 was closed down from 64 to Crivitz and that they were routing people onto 64, over to 180 in Marinette, and up to Wausaukee to rejoin 141,  I heard that the were working on the Peshtigo River bridge, making through traffic not an option.

This detour came up with the Crivitz to Wausaukee construction too. The towns and county didn’t want the state highway traffic rerouted onto to town or county roads. They aren’t built for it and the roads take a pounding. At that point the official detour had to be all on state roads, ie 64 and 180.

When I used to drive up 141 on busy weekends I would take 64 west about 6 miles to S from there I went north to 17th Rd and west a few blocks west onto Parkway Rd. That took me north into the High Falls/Caldron Falls Flowage area and up into Silver Cliff.

If you want to get around the construction and into Crivitz and points north on 141 you can stay on S until it hits P. Take P north to W and into Crivitz. Like the big project in Green Bay, it will be nice when it is done.

I have been a busy boy lately and haven’t had much time for blogging. I spent some time cleaning out the Big Sow Page, and now I am in the process of transferring it to a new cloud based SSD server. The old server was a good one, but this promises faster response times and no downtime. We will see.

I am off to see to that. I will be back soon. Have a good week and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

It has been a hot and humid week. The cement floor in the shop at work has been sweating and the folks that work outside have been too. I have seen low 90s on my car thermometer several times this week.

Today was one of them, but it cooled off a lot this afternoon as scattered thunderstorms hit the area. Watching the TV weather channel a lot of places that were around 90 are now in the upper 60s or low 70s.

Some of the thunderstorms were pretty good ones that prompted warnings, but I am not aware of any major damage. In Wausaukee from 4-5pm it was as dark as night and raining pretty good. The ditches were starting to collect some puddles when I left at 5:30. Here in Silver Cliff we had almost nothing. Again watching the TV, Shawano had 1.36″, Crivitz had 0.18″. If you got hit it usually brought meaningful rain.

The rain is welcome after a few dry weeks. It will help with fire danger and the big holiday weekend coming up.

The weather for the weekend looks summer-like. There is a storm approaching for about Monday, and the southern flow ahead of it should put us in warm and humid air Friday through Sunday. As a result there is a minor chance of a shower or storm brewing up, but nothing organized is expected until about Sunday night. Look for highs in the low to mid 80s.

We have seen the first glimpse of fall colors. There were a few maples on the way to Antigo Sunday that had a branch or two just starting to change. There was a tree near Wheeler Lake on F that showed a little color too.

I don’t have any new events for the weekend.

The radar is showing a big line of storms right over me, and I can hear it rumbling. I am going to get this posted before the power goes out or flickers. Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

I am sorry that it has been so long. August found me very busy and brought plenty of distractions. Even now I only have a couple of minutes to visit.

The weather has been a little cooler that is typical. We had some hot and humid weather and some storms, but nothing too hot or severe. More recently we have hit a cool stretch. Earlier this week we had a day that didn’t even hit 60 degrees. That isn’t very typical for August.

This weekend is the Marinette Co Fair, and it starts tonight. Here is a link.

Greetings and welcome!

It looks like another full week ahead, so I am getting a head start with some events.

This Saturday is the Silver Cliff Picnic & Parade. Here is the sign with the info…

8-3-15aThis Friday is also the drive through fish & shrimp fry, a fundraiser  with the Friends of the Mountain Ambulance Service. it is at the Mountain Ambulance Station along 32.

In Wabeno they are having a street dance this Friday night. The poster is a little blurry but making it bigger helps.

8-3-15b

There is also a fishoree and corn roast/meat raffle on Hwy W by Roberts Lake in Wabeno. There will be raffles and cash prizes too.

From Chris’ event calendar..

Aug. 8
Amberg Community Assoc. Annual Duck Run at Mosquito Park
Starts at 11am, public is invited. Paddle wheel, raffles, food and refreshments. Ducks for sale at Mathis Hardware, Driftwood Sport & Fuel, Amberg Pub.

We had a couple of lines of storms roll through yesterday. They brought lightning, heavy rain, and a few wind gusts. There were reports of wind damage and hail over by Rhinelander, but nothing to speak of here. I did see a few hail stones in the heavy rain, but they were peanut sized and there weren’t many of them.

The second line turned into a beast as it moved east. There were pictures on the news from Oconto and Oconto Falls with 3″+ hailstones. One was as big as the palm of the guy’s hand. Door Co took some wind damage too.

There was a 100 acre wildfire near Parkway and Hwy W last weekend. They had several DNR crews as well as several local fire departments, and it still took a while to tame the blaze. Dry conditions were a factor in the size and difficulty of the fire.

That is news from here. Have a good week and thank you for visiting!
