Thursday 7-30-15

Greetings and welcome!

It has been a very busy week for me so I haven’t had a chance to update. Even now I should be somewhere else, so it will be a quick visit.

In events this weekend we have the Lakewood Arts & Crafts Festival Saturday from 9-3. In Laona they are having their community soup, bring your own bowl. The Townsend Flowage Association is having a Corn Roast fundraiser Saturday, and there is a corn 73015aroast at EverBreeze too. When I was traveling Hwy 8 earlier in the week I saw a sign that said that this was the weekend of the Shrine Picnic. That is on Shrine Rd north of 8.

Last but not least is the Bear Point Yacht Club Menominee River Float Trip. This time they are adding a meat raffle. Those are always popular around here.

Critter sightings this week included a few deer, lots of turkeys, and a fox last night. The road pizza award goes to the porcupines, several of which I have seen after their demise.

We are on the eve of a blue moon. It is the second full moon of the month, and the full moon is around 5am tomorrow.

Tonight we have a chance at some northern lights. There is a magnetic storm watch out. If the clouds stay away we could get a show.

It was a warm week with temps in the low 90s. Today was a lot nicer with 80s and a little wind. We had a thunderstorm roll through at about 6pm that brought a few rumbles and some heavy rains, and it will bring in a little cooler air. The mist in the valleys was very pretty at sunset.

The weekend looks nice. Look for a high/low of about 80/60. The NWS as a 20% chance of showers from Friday on, and it jumps to 30% Sunday.

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

Last night got away on me a little with work, and I never got to my update. I promised some events in Sunday’s visit, here is what I found..

Brazeau Emergency Services Fundraiser/Picnic-At The Klondike Ball Field. Live music in the afternoon, pro wrestling in the evening. Kids entertainment, fire department water fights, Flight For Life helicopter demonstration.

Eagle Creek Pub Car Show- Not sure what annual it is, but they have done it for a long time. There were nice cars last year, and friends too.

Amberg- Legion Club Turkey Shoot and raffles. ( You don’t shoot turkeys, but rather targets. BYO .22 or use one of theirs).

Wagner VFD Picnic- At Hwy X & 180. Music in the afternoon. Food, raffles, drawings.

Weinerfest North- Wabeno American Legion fundraiser to support troops and veterans. Meat raffle, military equipment display, presentation of colors at noon, serving Meatski’s wieners. The Happy Schnapps Combo is playing 4-7.. Da second week of deer camp.. and all da boys are here..

The weekend looks good with a chance of rain Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Once it clears up both days look nice with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s.

I am not sure that it is every where, but in my travels I have seen a very significant decline in the mosquito population in the past week or so. I sure don’t mind that.

More to follow soon.. Have a good week and thank you for visiting!

Sunday 7-19-15

Greetings and welcome!

We really dodged a bullet yesterday. The forecast was for a hot muggy day with and extremely unstable atmosphere, and a cold front coming in the afternoon when there would be maximum heating. Usually that is the recipe for severe weather.

The CAPE values really got my attention. If I see them over about 2,000 j/Kg I expect thunderstorms and possible severe weather. Yesterday the models had them in the 3-4,000 range. I don’t remember the number but I am pretty sure that we were under 3,000 when the Riverview tornado came.

Anyway, the line of storms came through at about 6am, the time of day with the least heating from the sun. There couldn’t have been a better outcome. Even so there were some severe weather warnings south of Green Bay. I haven’t seen the news to see how that turned out. At any rate we went from a worst case scenario to a best case scenario.

We ended up with very nice weather. It turned out to be a hot sunny 86 degree day. There were a few wind gusts in the afternoon but nothing of consequence.

7-19-15aHog Wrestling was fun at the Caldron Falls Bar Saturday. A lot of people came and it was a nice day for it. Reports had the OWI task force out doing their thing later on. There were a couple of taxis and a couple of shuttle buses, so there were safe rides home to be had.

The weather for the week ahead looks nice. For the most part it looks like upper 70s and low 80s with clear weather. There is a chance of a thunderstorm later in the week.

I will be back Tuesday night with the latest and some events too. Have a good week and thank you for visiting!
