There are already quite a few deer hunters in the area, the roads are already getting busy. The deer are running stupid and frequently bound out in front of the car. Ideally that means that they are still in rut, a bonus for hunters. I don’t know about the rut part, but they are definitely running out into the roads a lot, especially around sunset and for a couple of hours after.
The weather is going to be a factor this weekend. We had a big storm in the forecast that had potential for a good amount of snow. That has changed. Right now my model guidance shows rain moving in Friday afternoon or evening and being somewhat short lived. There cou;ld be a little snow on the back of the storm. The biggest issue that I see on the models is that Saturday will be a cold windy day behind the storm Saturday. Sunday will be a little calmer but cold. Here is the NWS take on it..
Friday
Rain after 5pm. High near 37. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Friday Night
Rain, possibly mixed with snow showers before 5am, then snow showers likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain. Low around 32. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday
A chance of rain and snow showers before 11am, then a chance of snow showers between 11am and noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. North northwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday Night
Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Sunday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 28.
Sunday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.
In recent model runs the storm is going farther south than expected, and it doesn’t really organize until it is well past us. I am sure that most people would give up the little bit of snow on the ground for reasonable traveling conditions. The cold and windy we can’t do much about.
I saw that there are several hunter’s bake sales going on in advance of the season. I have seen signs at Firelane Bar and at Jungle Jim’s. The only one that I have details on at the moment is Jungle Jim’s.. Silver Cliff Fire & Rescue Aux Hunter’s Bake Sale Fri Nov 17 9am-3pm @Jungle Jim’s.
The Caldron Falls Bar has a variety of music, events, meals, and specials for the coming week.
The Hilltop Resort & Supper Club normally has limited hours in November and December. They will be open all week next week and they have a Thanksgiving Buffet Thursday from Noon-8pm.
I have about a 30 year tradition over deer hunting at Rapids Resort. Here is their gun deer season schedule: live music by Paul Matty on the 18th, hunters dinner buffet on Tuesday $7.95, Thanksgiving dinner buffet $10.95 on Thursday, Friday fish and Saturday prime rib, breakfast every day, hope to see you and hear your big buck stories!!!
I am planning on being at Rapids Resort Friday night with my LED flashlights and headlamps to sell. (Web site) Be aware that my in-person pricing is at least $5 cheaper than on the web site and bonuses like extra batteries and cheap $5 flashlights happen too. If I still have some to sell I will likely be there Saturday night too. I will update here by early afternoon Saturday if I will be.
Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
