Greetings and welcome!
I am not getting caught waiting until Friday and then being too busy to update again. My apologies, that is what happened last week.
Anyway- This weekend is a big weekend around here. This is the weekend of the annual Silver Cliff picnic and parade. The festivities start Friday with a craft fair at the park, along with a historical bus tour of Silver Cliff. Friday night there will be fireworks. Those activities and the fireworks were new last year and it was a smash hit. Saturday is the annual picnic and parade.
The tornado did some really extensive damage to the park and surrounding area. There was a group of volunteers that put in thousands of man hours and they have the place looking great. Considering what they started with it has been an amazing transformation. The fireworks will be a lot more visible this year if there is a bright side to a really tragic tornado.
We finally got some meaningful rain early this week. Initially there was some light rain, but it started training with waves of rain following a line in a mini-train that favored our area. The rain probably didn’t hit Northwoods Bar or the south end of High Falls, but east to west it went from about Townsend to Wausaukee, and we were lucky enough to see some rain out of it. The next night we had some significant showers and storms that added up to meaningful rain.
Before the rain came we were seriously dry. The grass was all dead and only the weeds were thriving. The swamps were dried out and the rivers were very low. The Peshtigo River went from about 175 CFS (Not desirable for rafting or tubing) up to almost 400 CFS. I consider anything over about 300 really fun, so we are back into the fun zone for tubing and rafting.
Here are the posters for this weekend’s events..
That is news for this week. Have a great weekend and thank you for visiting!
