Greetings and welcome!

We have a beautiful sunny morning this morning. It looks like a nice day ahead.

This is the first time in quite a while that I will be reporting less than an inch of rain for the week. The USGS gauge by Kosir’s is reporting 0.8″ for the past 7 days. I recall when I did rafting pictures @ Kosir’s I was always happy if we saw at least an inch of rain a week. Recently it has been 2, 3, 4″ or more for the week.

Looking at the river gauge I see that we are in for another fantastic weekend of whitewater rafting on the Peshtigo River. Right now it is running at about a +18″, much above normal. The typical flow of the river for today based of 22 years of records is about 236 cubic feet per second (CFS). I consider anything above 300 the fun zone for anyone.  The record high for today is 450CFS. Today’s flow of 1,060CFS shatters all previous records by more than 2x. While the Peshtigo River is normally getting a little rocky right now, that isn’t the case this year. Go rafting this weekend, it will be a blast. Call Kosir’s @ 715-757-3431.

We have a hot and humid weekend coming up. I am expecting highs in the upper 80s or low 90s. The NWS forecast is for some showers or storms Saturday night and a chance of more Sunday afternoon. Honestly at this time of year a hot n humid day can stir up a shower or storm just about any time. I wouldn’t change plans over it, but be ready for anything.

The only event that I know of this weekend is a brat fry Saturday from 9-2pm at the Lakewood Super-Valu store benefiting the MS Society.

That is about all that I have this morning. Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

I am sorry that I missed last week’s update. I had hoped to do it Friday but the world had other ideas. That isn’t going to happen this week.

Item one- This is traditionally the hog wrestling weekend at the Caldron Falls bar. The bar sold and hog wrestling is gone forever. They are having a car show Saturday and calling it the Burnout Bash. Expect a lot of nice cars and the standard live music and lots of people.

Also happening this weekend there is a flea and farmer’s market in Crivitz at the Evergreen Marketplace just north of the Chevy dealer on Friday and Saturday.

There is a brat fry from 10am-2pm Friday at Lakewood Super-Valu benefiting the Paul Bunyan Riders snowmobile club.

We have had a very wet week again. The USGS gauge by Kosir’s marked 2.5″ for the week, with 1.5″ of it coming yesterday alone. Based on what I saw on radar returns some areas will have quite a bit more rain than that, probably more like 4+inches.

A couple of things related to that.. Item one is that the Peshtigo River where they do the whitewater rafting is absolutely ripping. Right now the river is at +25″, a level they are happy to see in spring with the snow runoff. Yesterday’s rain hit their watershed pretty good, so I expect it to stay close to there or maybe even go up a little for the weekend. You can’t get more adventure than this for what $30? Come see why this river is world famous. They will be using big boats with a guide in them and 4 or more people. Call Kosir’s @ 715-757-3431.

Along that same line driveways  and ATV trails have been getting washouts and huge puddles of standing water. My driveway hill is messed up pretty bad. The ATV trail between Hwy I (Parkway north) and Fox Lake Rd in Silver Cliff had a bad washout too. Here is a pic from Facebook..

The weather this weekend will be hot and humid. There will be a chance of storms daily with the summer weather. Right now the best chance looks like Saturday night.

I believe that there are more events this weekend and I will try to get a handle on that. Right now I have to run off and take care of business.

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Porterfield Cruisin’ Oldies is this weekend.

Woodtick festival has been cancelled due to some heavy handed Michigan government threats about their COVID restrictions.

Thursday 7-2-2020

I am updating my Tuesday post with a new date to keep the events from getting pushed off into the archive.

-The weather outlook hasn’t changed much.

-Rustic Inn is having live music Saturday at 3pm.

-I listed the wrong band for Caldron Falls Bar, the band Sat is Bullets & Booze.

-I found a graphic about Pembine’s 4th festivities and I posted it at the bottom of the list.

Greetings and welcome!

I am getting a head start this week with the big weekend coming up.

First up it is going to be a hot one. We are in a stubborn jet stream pattern known as an omega block. That is where the jet stream loops up over the Great Lakes region in an omega shape, bringing hot and humid air to the region. Expect hot and humid days with highs in the upper 80s or low 90s. Dew points will be in the low 70s, fairly uncomfortable.

On the west side of the omega block there is some pretty active weather. We won’t be part of that until Sunday afternoon according to the current forecast. There is a chance of rain Thursday and that is all that is showing until Sunday.

I would expect the beaches and lake to be busy this week and weekend. Whitewater rafting and tubing will be popular, and the Peshtigo River is still above normal by about 10″. A lot of people will have a great time there this weekend.

There is a lot happening this weekend. The 4th is actually on Saturday this year. Here is my list so far…

Crivitz

Update- Crivitz cancelled their parade & festivities out of COVID  concerns. The fireworks are still on. Read on.

The Crivitz Museum will be hosting a Flea and Farmers market on Saturday July 4th. Hours will be from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. with vendors set up starting at 7 a.m. A fee of $15 per lot from the vendors will be collected during the day. Lot size will be approximately 25′ x 20′ with 6′ in between for social distancing. it will be located in the field across from the Crivitz High School (Behind McDonalds and across the street). Rain date would be the following day on July 5th Sunday. The museum will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day and like always free admission.

Wausaukee

Wausaukee is still having a parade and fireworks, but cancelled the usual celebration due to COVID fears. Parade starts at one at the south end of town down the highway to the campground at the north end of town. It generally takes 30 minutes or more.  Fireworks near the fairgrounds, the usual celebration is canceled, but local businesses are stepping up.

Oconto County

Gillett 4th of July Celebration- Parade, fireworks,
Date: July 4, 2020
Townsend Fireworks On Saturday, July 4, 2020 starting at dusk. No parade or celebration.

That is my list so far. Hopefully I will get back late week and update with any new events and the latest weather.

It has been a busy week for the area as people take time off ahead of the holiday. I would expect a busy weekend.

Have a good week and thank you for visiting!

Pembine-

Tuesday 6-23-2020

Morning Update- We did make that 4″ mark.. just barely.

Greetings and welcome!

Just a quick rain update..

Saturday it went on to rain another inch for a total of 3″ on the USGS gauge by Kosir’s.  Several people said that their gauge was higher than the USGS gauge by 1/2″ or more.

Sunday turned out to be a pretty nice day. It did rain a little after sunset.

Guess what? It is raining again. It started a little before sunset Monday and has added up to 1/2″ as of 11:15pm Monday night. The radar shows that it might not stop for a while. I would not be surprised to see it hit the 1″ mark, bringing us to about 4″ of rain since Saturday.

This is as of 11:15pm Monday.

There are going to be some flooded trails and forest roads. Lowlands that gather water have done so, and I would expect small lakes to be pretty full. Mud won’t be hard to find. Trout streams are going to be big too. It has been a wet summer.

The whitewater rafting will be amazing this week and weekend. The Peshtigo is running about a+18″, a really fun level.

Weekend visitors might want to hit WalMart for some of that Repel Sportsman’s 40%. The wet stretch was not lost on the gators (mosquitoes). I got swarmed pretty bad Sunday night.

Have a good week!
