Greetings and welcome!

We had a lot of rain last night. The radar returns are showing 1.5″ plus and the USGS rain gauge by Kosir’s is showing just over 2″. It must have really rained hard at some point, I actually had water go up over the cement lip between the garage and driveway and flood half of the garage.

I would expect to see some washed out or flooded forest roads and ATV trails as a result, especially in northern Oconto County. There is more rain on the way.

I should also note that the Peshtigo River came up about 5″ overnight from the rain. That is very unusual. It is one of my little truths of life that a rising river is a fun river for whitewater. It gets very pushy and rafting this fast of a rise should be a total blast. Call Kosir’s. 715-757-3431.

The bars are probably going to be busy this weekend. Based on how clogged the cell towers are there are a lot of weekend visitors this weekend. Not only is the data impossibly slow, yesterday afternoon I couldn’t even make a call. It is good to see a lot of people in the area again.

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and happy Friday!

The weather has been interesting lately. Last Friday night we got down to 33 degrees. This week we have been in the mid and upper 80s. Now the NWS has at least a chance of rain for the next 7 days.

It does look like a soggy weekend starting with some showers or storms this afternoon. It is not supposed to rain the whole time this weekend, but by Monday we could see 1-3″ of rain. I guess that fire danger won’t be a problem.

The yellow daisies have been coming on strong this past week and some fields are totally painted with them. The cottonwoods are dropping seeds, so it looks like it snowed in some places.

There is live music at the Caldron Falls Bar Saturday night.

The whitewater rafting and lazy river tubing by Kosir’s will be good again this weekend. The river still hasn’t gone down to zero (-not empty, but rather the normal summer water level) yet this year.

The grass has been growing fast and needs cutting again.

Saturday is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. We will have 15 hours 40 minutes and 45 seconds of daylight. It is all downhill from here. We will lose 6 hours, 58 minutes from now until the December Solstice. Enjoy it while you can!

Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Greetings and welcome!

Well we survived the tropical depression this week. The storm prediction cone that they use on hurricanes and such showed the path of the low going about 2 miles west of my house in Silver Cliff.

In the end we had a couple of inches of rain and some very windy days. The NWS radar returns didn’t follow the storm long enough without resetting to get a storm total out of it. The USGS gauge by Kosir’s shows about 2″ of rain from the storm itself, and 2.25″ for the week. The wind didn’t do much damage, I have a couple of small branches down from it.

The Peshtigo River went from about +6″ to about a +18″. Whitewater rafting this weekend will be exceptional. Call Kosir’s at 715-757-3431

Between waves of rain I took the dog out for a walk mid-week. I made it about 50′ before I doubled back for some Repel. The wet year is not lost on the mosquitoes or ticks. The former were really plentiful and quite hungry. Bring Repel, and I use the 40% stuff.

I can’t tell you how the fishing is yet, I have been so busy that I haven’t even started work on the boat. It should be about prime right now. Maybe next week.

There is some live music in the area this week. Saturday afternoon there is live music outside at Rustic Inn, and Saturday night at Caldron Falls Bar.

We have a nice weekend ahead, but bring some warm gear for the evenings. The NWS says that we could have a high of 62 Saturday and 69 Sunday. The forecast for here is for a low of 37 tonight and 39 Saturday night, but the frost advisory says that some areas could see upper 20s to low 30s. Remember when I warned about planting stuff before June 10th? Sometimes even that is a little early. Welcome to life north of the 45th parallel.

There have been some absolutely incredible sunsets in the past week. Go on FaceBook under Crivitz Area Talk, there are a lot of pictures there.

Time to go and get on that to-do list. Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!

Severe Weather Watch

Link

Greetings and welcome!
As I get ready for my day I found some weather information that you should be aware of.

The 90+ and humid day will not be very enjoyable.

What I am concerned about is the potential for severe storms later this afternoon. Looking at the CAPE and DCAPE values there is a good chance of severe weather this afternoon into tonight. There is a slight tornado risk but a good chance of big hail, damaging winds, and torrential rains. Right now it looks like the main focus is from Green Bay and south, but on the grand scale of things we are close enough to be concerned.

Keep an eye on the sky this afternoon.
